The Negative Impacts of Video Games on Children

Video games have been available to consumers for the last 30 years. They are a unique form of entertainment, because they encourage players to become a part of the game's script. Today's sophisticated video games require players to pay constant attention to the game, rather than passively watching a movie. This has both positive and negative impacts on players. Several studies have been published that explore these impacts on today's children.

The authors stated that teens who play violent video games for extended periods of time:

• Tend to be more aggressive
• Are more prone to confrontation with their teachers
• May engage in fights with their peers

Because of the popularity of video games, completely eliminating them from child's life might be difficult. But parents can decrease the negative impact that they have on child. Here are a few tips:

• Parents should not install video game equipment in your child's bedroom.
• Parents have to set limits on how often and how long their child is allowed to play video games.
• Parents must monitor all of their child's media consumption -- video games, television, movies and Internet.
• Parents must supervise their child's Internet use -- there are now many "video games" available for playing online.

The Dubai 48 Hour Film Project

It is an international film competition to make a short-film in just 48 hours. The 48 Hour film Project is a film-making competition designed to have filmmakers compete to make a film 4-7 minutes long, in just 48 hours. The winner of each city project qualifies to represent their city against the rest of the world for the coveted “Best 48 hour film” award and a chance to be screened at the Cannes film festival “short corner”. The project is the oldest and biggest timed filmmaking competition in the world. Established by Mark Ruppert in Washington DC back in 2001, it has grown to over 100 countries around the world. In 2011 this immensely popular Festival/competition finally came to the Middle East and was received with open arms. The Dubai project had been the second Middle Eastern city for this international filmmaking competition, and was open to all UAE residents. Actually I was one of these participants with my university team at AUD which is one of the organizations for this beautiful work. Even though it was a very difficult experience which is full of stress and tiredness, it was an awesome step that I got benefits from it to help me with my major 'Media Studies', learned the basic principles  of shooting with my colleagues, and had fun during the shooting time. Because I am a tall person, my position in this amazing work was the boom operator.

Sala Magazine is the leading Arabic Publication in the University

“SALA” is the Arabic leading monthly magazine specifically addressed to university students. It disseminates essential information to its young readership in an entertaining fashion. “SALA” covers student activities, interacts with them and appeals to their interests. Sala Magazine is an infotainment magazine catering to University students around the UAE and the neighboring Arab countries. For example, a reporter from this magazine interviewed me as a month student.

A Great Channel from A Distinguishable Group

MBC Group was able to attract a large number of viewers. MBC 4 ,which I like very much, is a channel from this unique group. MBC 4 broadcasts the newest in top-rated western activities and Turkish series that are dubbed into Arabic.  

The Doctors show is one of the most successful programs that broadcasted on MBC 4 which includes four of the most skilled experts in several medical fields who offer medical pieces of advice in a simple fashion, and answer questions of viewers who may feel too embarrassed to ask the doctors who deal with them, the program relies on the interaction between doctors and the public in the studio. 

Dr. OZ is another show on MBC 4 which is the largest and most popular health program in the world that broadcasted in 45 countries. It shows realistic stories, and uses fun in the shows so people will easily interact emotionally with the story to encourage the one who faces the problem to be changed. 

MBC 4 is looking to increase the Arab`s talents through a program that called Arabs Got Talent which introduces the most creative and attractive talents across the entire Arab world for all boys and girls of any age and Arab country for any kind of talent.

Mr. Bean : A Successful Silent Series

In general, acting is a very difficult job especially in past days when they had not modern equipments. Mr. Bean began his life with new experiment that I think it was the most difficult and unique job because those series lasted only for minutes, and he should be funny without saying a word! Mr. Bean is a British silent series, starring actor Rowan Atkinson in the personality of the naïve who face a lot of problems, and try to solve them in a funny way. Although it is a silent series in the period of non silent series (sound system was discovered), it has a very big number of viewers around the world because of its humorous way in presenting the ideas so people consider it as an entertaining silent series. In addition, it is easy to be understood by all ages due to its simple and enjoyable ideas. The best description of this marvelous actor that: he is a child in a grown man's body.

Attractive Advertisements Attract People to buy what they don`t like to buy !

To be successful in any business field there must be a successful advertisement. Advertising should be in a creative way that attracts the people attention. This picture is the best example of what I say. Advertisers always like to spend their money in amazing, unique, and gorgeous advertisements; while I was waiting the metro in one of the metro stations, a very eye-catching advertisement for the National Bonds company attracted me because of their astounding idea that describe the features and advantages of joining this firm along the stairs. In addition, this ad is written in two main languages: Arabic and English. In my opinion, it is an idea that shows intelligence. For instance, thousands of people use this stairs and see that amazing ad every day; therefore more people will buy bonds! Advertisement is a modern way to let people spend their money so advertisements agencies should be imaginative to attract people. 

Siri On iPhone 4s

A new amazing feature on iPhone 4s, which called Siri, allows the user to communicate with the phone as he/she speak to a person. Siri has four major functions. Firstly, it realizes what a person says. For example, if you want to remind you to call someone, Siri will do what you say, find the info you want, and answer you. Secondly, not only it understands what a person says but also it knows what you mean. If you ask about a restaurant, Siri will tell you that there are number of restaurants close to you. Thirdly, Siri facilities you to do your daily habits, such as, texting to your friend, reminding you to call someone, and giving you the exact location for any place you want. Finally, Siri can inform you in many ways. It can search the web for any subject you need, play the song you want to hear, and schedule meetings. Really it is an attractive, creative and unique service on new iPhone 4s mobiles which attracts people to buy the mobile phone to try this implausible application that helps them to have a conversation with their iPhone.

Traffic Accidents

Traffic accidents is one of the most important issues that discussed in daily newspapers. Because of its importance and spreading, it has a special corner in every newspaper. Speed and careless are the main causes of traffic accidents. Although police always try to aware people not to drive their cars without concentration, most of them did not care about these instructions. For example, many people in Arab world ignore using the seat belt because they believe that it is an unimportant tool to use for safety; whereas, people in western world cannot drive without using the seat belt because of their belief that it is the main factor to protect them in traffic accidents. Mass Media should raise the people awareness about that dangerous problem that we suffer a lot from it by holding seminars in T.V, writing articles and reports in newspapers & magazines, and discussing this issue by interviewing drivers, policemen, and experts in traffic accidents in radio.

The Ethics of Journalism

Since the press is right, so it has rights and duties. Rights, are to show broad freedom of expression, with the knowledge that freedom is not absolute because it defines the freedoms of others, and the duty is to be committed to the press responsibility, which is based on community service, through the respect for its culture, social status, and nationality. Without doubt that there is a relationship between freedom and responsibility. If the freedom is not associated with responsibility it can be exposed to misrepresentation and fraud, or even publish the news that does not fit with the community. In my opinion, if the freedom is lost then the responsibilities are impossible to apply. The world, especially the mass of media must have a special document or news system that save these two attributes (freedom and responsibility), and this can be with the availability of the means to achieve the desired goals.The term journalistic ethics is not newly, it appeared in 1916 in Sweden then in France after two years of publishing this term.

Ads Determine the Children Choices of Food, and Affect their Characters Negatively

Parents may have authority over their children`s choices of food but they should not forget that there is another thing that compete them over this authority. Surely, it is the ads that its authority is not less than the authority of parents, and I think that the authority of advertisements exceeds the authority of parents because of its attractiveness and creativity ways to convince children including eating and drinking in the various television stations and means of display of television banners and pictures in the streets, stadiums, movie theaters and shopping centers. In my opinion, health authorities should organize campaigns to raise awareness of the seriousness of an outbreak of childhood obesity because of the unhealthy diets and lack of parental guidance. Parents should prevent their children from watching T.V for long periods, and avoid putting the T.V in the children bedrooms.

Unique Channel

Surely, not all channels that launched on T.V are useful, successful, and lovable by people. National Geographic channel is one of the most amazing channels in the Middle East region. It is a very useful channel that involves a variety of programs in different fields such as, scientific field, cultural field, historical field, and natural field. It launched in 1^st September, 1997, and it is a successful channel since it always has exclusive programs, new films, and an attractive documentaries. The most important factor that made this channel one of the most unique ones is that it is a lovable channel by viewers all over the world (Europe, Latin America, North America, Middle East, and Africa)
